CREATING AN IMMERSIVE STORE EXPERIENCE

Role: Senior Art Director

Opportunity

With a number of high profile releases set to hit the big screen in the next 2 years DC Comics was looking for a way to capitalize on merchandise sales. Having been given an opportunity to create a retail store within a store at Walmart they enlisted Catapults shopper marketing expertise to bring it to life.

Insight

The Biggest Challenge facing DC Comics is how broad its collection of properties is. When beginning to strategize how we could design a space for them we had to first come up with a way to organize the properties so that the shopper could easily navigate the space. We also needed to make sure that the space felt like it belonged and was more than a temporary marketing ploy.

Result

The end result was a large  2,500 square foot space at the front of the store that combined permanent sections for DC’s Core properties, with engaging destinations designed to highlight rotating properties. Each section had a good mix of hard and soft line products to round out the assortment while giving the shopper many more options than were typically available in a non-specialty retail store.
